«Return to Silent Hill» is primarily aimed at Silent Hill 2 fans — first reviews appear
Some viewers have already had the opportunity to evaluate Christoph Gans' new film.
The first reviews for the film «Return to Silent Hill» — a new adaptation of Silent Hill 2 by director Christoph Gans — have appeared on the Letterboxd platform.
Italian film critic Roberto Giacomelli from DarkSideCinema gave the film a score of 3 out of 5 and noted that Gans «failed to recreate the magic» of the original 2006 film, but still made a «worthy and atmospheric work». The main complaint is excessive fidelity to the original source.
According to the reviewer, the story of Silent Hill 2 is too complex and profound for a feature film format, which will make it difficult for viewers unfamiliar with the game to understand what is happening. In particular, too little attention is paid to a number of minor characters and their backgrounds.
Other reviews call the film «sometimes tedious, sometimes mesmerizing», but emphasize that the film accurately conveys the spirit of the game. Some critics also note that the new version turned out to be at least more convincing than the 2006 adaptation, which Gans worked on earlier.
The world premiere of «Return to Silent Hill» is scheduled for January 23, 2026. The film will be officially released in Russia — the прокат starts a day earlier, on January 22.
