The authors had to adjust the characters of the heroes to make the story work better in the series format.

Showrunner of the series "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," Ira Parker, confirmed that the adaptation will not follow George Martin's novellas frame by frame. In a conversation with journalists, he said that the characters of the key characters—Dunk and Egg—were slightly reworked to look more organic on the screen.

According to Parker, it is not about radical changes, but about pinpoint adjustments. Thus, Egg in the series version became a little smarter and more sarcastic than in some episodes of the original. And Dunk still doubts himself, but does it differently: he less often calls himself a fool, and his insecurity is now presented as a character trait, and not as an old complex due to childhood taunts about a "big and stupid lout."

As the showrunner noted, many edits appeared already in the process of working with the actors. Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell brought so much individuality to their characters that the writers had to rewrite the dialogues for their on-screen chemistry. At the same time, Parker emphasized that he consulted closely with George Martin—and the writer supported all the changes made.

The premiere of the first season of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" will take place on HBO on January 18, 2026. The authors are already working on the second season, and the fate of the series in the future will depend on the reaction of the audience.
