Sophie Turner is preparing to become the new face of Tomb Raider, but she is not going to imitate Angelina Jolie or Alicia Vikander.
Sophie Turner is seriously preparing to become the new Lara Croft. In an interview with SiriusXM, the actress said that she plays Tomb Raider games and reads comics, including large collections of about 500 pages, but deliberately avoids watching film adaptations in order not to borrow someone else's interpretation of the character.
"I play games, read comics, do everything at once, but I try not to focus on previous film adaptations. I don't want to imitate - it's important for me to create my own version of Lara."
This refers to both the early 2000s dilogy with Angelina Jolie and the 2018 reboot with Alicia Vikander. Turner also did not watch the animated series "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft", which was released on Netflix in the last two years, where the heroine was voiced by Hayley Atwell.
In addition to working with primary sources, Turner devotes a lot of time to physical training. Training began back in February 2025 and has been going on for almost a year, but filming will start very soon - January 16, 2026.
The details of the series' plot are still kept secret, but the cast is gradually being revealed. It is already known that Sigourney Weaver will play an original character named Evelyn Wallis. Bill Paterson will also appear in the series as the butler Winston, Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, and Jason Isaacs, who got the role of Lara's uncle, Atlas de Mornay.
The release date of the series has not yet been revealed.
