Christophe Gans revealed which Silent Hill 2 ending viewers will see in "Return to Silent Hill"
This was the first ending Christophe Gans got when he played through the game, and one of the most common endings players encounter. Spoilers possible.
Less than a week remains before the premiere of "Return to Silent Hill." In an interview with ComicBook, director Christophe Gans explained why he decided to rely on the ending he himself saw during his first playthrough in the Silent Hill 2 adaptation.
"It was the scene at the bottom of the lake — the 'In Water' ending. It stuck in my memory forever because in the early 2000s, it was something completely atypical for video games: instead of victory, the player was revealed the cold truth about himself. It was amazing. That's when I realized that Silent Hill 2 was the first truly adult game on PlayStation."
According to Gans, it was this feeling of inner revelation that he wanted to transfer to the screen. "Return to Silent Hill," according to his plan, should not simply retell the plot, but recreate the emotional experience that the player experiences with James.
It is noteworthy that this ending is considered one of the two most common in the first playthrough of the game.
"Return to Silent Hill" will be released in theaters on January 22. According to the first reviews from journalists, the film is likely to appeal to fans of the original game, but may be difficult for the casual viewer.
