Mass Effect 5 Delayed After Dragon Age: The Veilguard Failure - Former Anthem Producer
Mass Effect fans are focused on the next installment, tentatively called Mass Effect 5. However, according to former BioWare executive producer Mike Darrah, it will be a "long time" before its release.
In an interview, Darrah discussed the studio's shift to a "one project" format and called it a positive step.
The Mass Effect 5 team did what we should have done when we moved people from Dragon Age to Anthem – everyone wins in the end.
He acknowledged that this approach increases the pauses between releases and creates problems, but it's "a different set of problems compared to what BioWare faced before, at least until 2022."
Previously, the studio had "multiple projects competing for attention and resources, hindering each other and causing unforeseen consequences." According to Darrah, the situation is different now:
As far as I understand, 100% of the studio's work is now focused on Mass Effect. And that's probably even better.
The release date for Mass Effect 5 is still unknown. Rumors suggest that the release will not take place until 2028–2029, and as of January 2025, the game has not even entered the full production stage.
