Sam Raimi has definitively refused to return to "Spider-Man" with Tobey Maguire
The director believes that the time for his interpretation of the character has passed, but this does not mean that Tobey Maguire will not return to the role.
Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire, has put an end to years of talk about a possible return to the franchise. In an interview with Screen Rant, he stated that he is not going to shoot "Spider-Man 4" and considers his mission complete. According to the director, superhero cinema has changed a lot over the years, and his version of the story is a thing of the past.
"After my three movies, I passed the baton to someone else. And I think they should continue to develop the storyline and support the audience that is now following the new baton holder."
Although the director made it clear that he is not considering returning to "Spider-Man" with Tobey Maguire, the actor's appearance as Peter Parker is still possible through the efforts of other authors. Earlier, screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, known for "The Batman" with Robert Pattinson, stated that he was trying to move the project off the ground and would like to create a sequel in which Peter Parker would combine the roles of husband, father, and superhero.
This idea is also supported by Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane in the original trilogy. Last fall, the actress said that the story of grown-up heroes and their family could be a worthy sequel.
So far, the potential "Spider-Man 4" with Tobey Maguire remains at the level of ideas and conversations. Nevertheless, viewers may still have a chance to see the character in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films — "Avengers: Doctor Doom" and "Avengers: Secret Wars". In the latter, according to rumors, he will play one of the key roles along with Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman.
