PC remains the most popular and in-demand platform.
Developer interest in creating games for Xbox is noticeably lower today than for other major platforms. This is evidenced by the results of the latest annual State of the Game Industry survey conducted by the Game Developers Conference (GDC).
More than 2,300 gaming industry professionals from around the world took part in the study. They were asked to indicate the platforms they would be interested in working on at the moment, with no limit on the number of options — that is, without having to choose just one thing.
The absolute leader, as expected, was PC: 80% of respondents said they wanted to develop games specifically for this platform. Sony and Nintendo consoles came next — 40% of those surveyed were interested in creating projects for PS5, and almost as many (39%) for the upcoming Switch 2.
Against this backdrop, the figures for Xbox Series X|S look modest: only 20% of developers marked this platform as interesting to them. In terms of appeal, it turned out to be closer to mobile devices and past generations — Android and iOS scored 16% each, while the original Nintendo Switch scored 13%.
