The head of DC Studios publicly defended screenwriter Christina Hodson, stating that the failures of previous films were not due to the script alone.
Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the screenwriter of "The Flash" and "Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn" has been working on the script for "The Brave and the Bold" for DC Studios since the fall of 2025. The project is expected to introduce a new Batman and Robin in the DCU film universe.
The news drew criticism from some DC fans, who linked the writer's appointment to the commercial and creative problems of her previous projects for the studio. Against the backdrop of the discussion, DC Studios head James Gunn commented on the situation.
"Those who criticize Christina Hodson as a writer have almost certainly never seen her actual scripts. She has been with us since the earliest stages of planning the DCU. And, honestly, you can't judge my scripts by films directed by other people — directors often take creative liberties."
With this statement, Gunn made it clear that he does not place responsibility for the failures of "The Flash" and "Birds of Prey" solely on the script, effectively separating the screenwriter's work from the final result on screen. At the same time, part of the audience pointed to a possible contradiction in this position.
The issue is that Andreas Muschietti is still attached as the director of "The Brave and the Bold" after previously directing "The Flash". Muschietti remains attached to the project, although, as THR notes, his involvement could be adjusted: after the success of the series "It: Welcome to Derry," the director has become one of the most in-demand figures within Warner Bros.
The release date for "The Brave and the Bold" has not yet been announced. Earlier, James Gunn noted that the film would not be released in the same year as Matt Reeves' "The Batman Part II," which pushes the project's release to at least 2028.
