For the 20th anniversary of the anime "Gintama," the franchise is returning to the big screen with a new adaptation of one of its most famous arcs.
Two weeks remain until the premiere of the feature-length anime "Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames" in Japan, and studio BN Pictures has reminded fans of it by presenting a new "battle trailer."
The film will be released in Japanese theaters on February 13, 2026, and will be an expanded adaptation of the "Yoshiwara in Flames" arc, previously shown in episodes 139-146 of the original Gintama anime. The feature-length version will receive additional scenes and characters that were not in the series.
The project is directed by Naoya Ando ("Paradox Live"), with the screenplay written by Taku Kishimoto ("Blue Lock"). Overall production supervision is handled by Yoichi Fujita, the chief director of the television "Gintama." Character design and key animation are by Shinji Takeuchi, one of the franchise's longtime contributors.
