The Tales series spans more than 30 years and includes over a dozen games. Many of them, for various reasons, remain unavailable on modern platforms, especially the early entries.

To mark the anniversary of its flagship jRPG brand, Bandai Namco launched the Tales Remastered Project initiative. In a short period of time, remasters of Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Graces f, and Tales of Xillia were released. At the same time, a significant portion of the series' catalog remains tied to outdated hardware.

Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia, and Tales of Rebirth have still not left the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Access to them in physical format today is extremely limited and expensive. That is why fans are asking Bandai Namco to go further and launch the Tales Remake Project. The situation was commented on by Tales series director Yusuke Tomizawa:

Remakes often require very large resources — almost as much as creating a new game, and sometimes even more. It is not a simple project. Even if we decide to pursue it, it must have the same potential as a new game. We have held many internal discussions about possible remakes and understand that fans want the return of older titles, especially those remembered fondly, so this option is being considered. However, the key thing remains choosing the right moment for their implementation.
