Brian Fargo, one of the key creators of Fallout, called the inXile Entertainment project the most ambitious of his career.
Game director Chad Moore, who previously worked on Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, said in an interview:
The team is focused on making the game respond naturally to the player's choices. We want every decision to lead to moments that feel personal, unexpected, and true to the story the player is shaping.
Clockwork Revolution takes place in the steampunk city of Avalon, where the elite possess time-travel technology. The situation changes when the main character, Morgan Vanette, gains access to it as well, allowing the player to reshape the city as they see fit. According to Moore, the developers wanted these changes to "feel intuitive, exciting, and truly unique".
For us, the main thing is the depth of visual reactivity. When you go back to the past and change something, you do not just unlock a new branch — you return to a present that has physically changed under the influence of those decisions. Avalon was handcrafted to reflect these changes in a way that feels earned and unexpected. It responds to your actions in a way rarely seen in other games.
The project promises large-scale consequences for decisions, taking into account multiple factions with their own interests. Clockwork Revolution still has no release date, although a former writer previously hinted at a 2026 release.
