The creators of the science fiction RPG Exodus have attracted a lot of attention. This is largely due to the fact that the creation is supported by former Mass Effect developers.
This sets a certain level of expectation for the project. Narrative Director Drew Karpyshyn, in an interview with GamesRadar+, stated that this creates a certain pressure on the team
We know that [players] are hungry for such projects. We are fans ourselves. We know what games we like and understand that the audience is waiting for the next major release of this kind. This gives us a huge opportunity to satisfy this request. However, at the same time, this is a tremendous pressure, because players' expectations are, rightly so, very high, and we are making every effort to meet them.
Karpyshyn sees this as an "incredible opportunity" and believes that the Exodus team "needs to live up to very high expectations":
[high expectations] is one of the reasons why making games is so difficult - because the bar is constantly being raised thanks to all the great games that have come before us. We need to rise to a new level.
He hopes that players who are looking for something new will appreciate Exodus:
As a player — even more than as a developer — I've started to get a little bored over time. Some of the franchises that I used to play all the time seem to have dropped out of the race. If I remember the games I played [last] year — such as Blue Prince, Clair Obscur, Ghost of Yotei — I'm increasingly looking for something fresh, crazy, new. And I hope that other people are looking for the same thing. We believe that we offer a really interesting take on a science fiction open-world RPG space opera. So I hope that people will give us a chance and try something that I think is different from their previous gaming experience.
