Viewers often note the short running time of the \"Game of Thrones\" spin-off series, but there is an explanation for this format.

The showrunner of \"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\" explained why the new project in the George R. R. Martin universe received an unusually compact format. The first season consists of six episodes lasting about 30-40 minutes — significantly less than \"Game of Thrones\" or \"House of the Dragon.\"

In an interview with GQ, Ira Parker noted that the team deliberately refused to stretch the novella \"The Hedge Knight\" and add conditional \"side quests\" to the characters in order to increase the running time.

According to the showrunner, the issue of duration was discussed with Martin in advance. The writer feared excessive expansion of the short literary source to the scale of a full season. The understanding that HBO would not insist on artificially increasing the material simplified the work on the adaptation.

At the same time, the series still includes new scenes and expands the lines of minor characters to make the world look more alive. For example, Lionel Baratheon received a more prominent role compared to the story, where he appears only briefly before the Trial of the Seven. However, these additions do not change the structure of the main story.
