Phison CEO Pua Khein-Seng stated that the shortage of DRAM and NAND Flash memory due to AI demand will persist.
Consumer electronics will face massive disruptions. From the end of this year until 2026, many system vendors will go bankrupt or exit product lines due to memory shortages. Smartphone production will decrease by 200–250 million units, and PC and TV production will decrease significantly.
The situation will be exacerbated by new NVIDIA AI-GPUs: if Rubin is released in tens of millions of copies, each with a need for 20 TB of SSD, this will consume about 20% of the world's annual NAND capacity. Memory suppliers are demanding three-year prepayments, and internal company forecasts predict shortages until 2030 or even longer.
Phison emphasizes that new capacity in China will only account for 3–5% of the global volume and will not cover the deficit. Pua Khein-Seng added:
The lifespan of products is being extended, and devices are being repaired instead of being disposed of.
However, the main threat remains: the memory shortage seriously limits the production of consumer devices.
