The project is directed by Chad Stahelski, known for the \"John Wick\" franchise. The reboot has been in development for several years. Initially, Lionsgate oversaw the film, but due to budget increases, the studio exited the project. Later, the rights were transferred to United Artists, and Amazon MGM Studios is handling distribution.
The materials were published by the UnBoxPHD account, which regularly shares footage from filming in London. Earlier, they also posted a photo with Dave Bautista, who plays Kurgan, MacLeod's main antagonist.
The exact release date of the reboot has not yet been announced. It is expected to be released no earlier than 2028. Initially, Chad Stahelski planned to release the film in 2027-2028, but in the fall of 2025, Henry Cavill suffered a leg injury while preparing for filming, which forced the production to be postponed by about six months.
