In February, Avowed was released on PlayStation 5. The developers introduced a major update for the RPG, including several races.
However, it turned out that the newcomers did not receive unique lines in dialogues, as was the case with the original races.
In a conversation with RPG Site, gameplay director Gabe Paramo explained that adding new races in this update was quite difficult:
It took a lot of work from our gameplay engineers and character artists to make sure all the customization parameters worked correctly for the new races and that all interactions in the game world synchronized regardless of the player's height and proportions.
Paramo then continued and explained that the Avowed port for PS5 and the update were mainly worked on by gameplay specialists. After the game's release, Obsidian did not have free people who could work on the narrative:
As for the narrative: since our team after release mainly consisted of specialists involved in the port to PS5 and gameplay, without separate narrative designers, we were unable to add unique dialogue options depending on the race. However, we added different bonuses to game attributes depending on the chosen race, so the difference between them still has a significant impact on the mechanics.
