In Arc Raiders, players can fight each other, but many prefer cooperation or simply avoid PvP encounters.
Design Director Virgil Watkins shared in a conversation with PC Gamer:
It surprised us a little bit — how many people were interested in and enjoying the [PvE] elements of the game. So that's definitely pushing us to put more emphasis on the possibility of friendly and fun interaction.
However, the authors of Arc Raiders note that they will not abandon the PvP direction and continue to develop it:
There will always be people who have the motivation to fight, because there are those who just love PvP. We have a group of players who want to play more peacefully or role-play, and we try to ensure that their gaming experience is not affected either.
The developers "need to first of all make sure that the PvP part of the game is as balanced and fair as possible... regardless of how much the audience shifts towards PvE."
