Insider DetectiveSeeds spoke with two employees who worked at the now-closed Bluepoint Games. They told him about the situation in the company.
For example, while working on God of War Ragnarok (they helped make it), the developers proposed creating a live service game based on the franchise — and received approval from Sony.
However, the studio missed several deadlines, and it soon became clear how large-scale and complex this task was for Bluepoint. One of the sources noted: "The concept sounded good, but we shouldn't have been doing a live service game — it's not in our spirit and not within our power."
As a result, PlayStation closed the project and instructed Bluepoint to present new concepts in 2025. Both sources reported that against the backdrop of Concord's cancellation, the pressure on deadlines increased, and attention to live service games became especially close. They also said that they consider the closure of the project to be the right decision, as it allowed the studio to focus on games that are more suitable for it.
In total, they offered Sony four different projects. Two of them were single-player remakes and PlayStation "felt they would not be commercially successful." None of the proposals were approved.
By the time of closure, Bluepoint Games had 50-60 people left. Employees were treated differently: some were offered jobs at Sony, while others were not helped with employment.
Sources suggest that Sony may conduct new rounds of layoffs or even close several studios in the foreseeable future.
