Hideki Kamiya rarely shows restraint when writing comments on his X social media page.
Former Resident Evil series head Hideki Kamiya has spoken out sharply against those who reveal the plot of the new installment in the franchise, Resident Evil Requiem, in advance. According to him, spoilers deserve "thousands of deaths."
Kamiya, also known for his work on series such as Bayonetta, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe, began his career at Capcom as a system planner for the original Resident Evil in 1996. He later served as game director for Resident Evil 2 and designer for Resident Evil 0.
Recently, Capcom appealed to players not to watch or distribute gameplay videos of Resident Evil Requiem that have begun to appear online. The company noted that it is aware of cases of major plot spoilers being published on video hosting sites and forums, including Reddit.
Retweeting Capcom's appeal, Kamiya recalled how, before the release of Resident Evil 2, a key plot twist in the game was revealed in a weekly magazine with photographs.
According to the developer, publishing spoilers for "one's own selfish satisfaction" tramples on the feelings of players eagerly awaiting the game, as well as the hard work of the creators who put their heart and soul into the project.
It's a disgusting act that destroys the happiness of everyone around you - you deserve thousands of deaths. May you be cursed and never be able to play games again.
