Modern technologies make it possible to transform the game.
Modder xoxor4d, who recently presented an RTX remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV, released a similar remaster of a racing game from the well-known Electronic Arts franchise in February.
The graphics of Need for Speed: Carbon are transformed thanks to path tracing: visually, the project looks quite modern (the original game was released 20 years ago).
xoxor4d noted that this RTX remaster of Need for Speed: Carbon has a couple of drawbacks:
- The Autosculpt customization feature does not work (the issue is in Remix).
- A large number of draw calls are produced, which creates increased load on the processor — the CPU may become a bottleneck in the remaster's operation.
The "nfsc-rtx" project has been published in open access on GitHub.
