Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen were released on the Nintendo eShop as separate games, not as part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Some fans considered it a "lazy port," but it turns out there are changes after all.
X user Meatball132 disassembled the files and discovered that the versions were rebuilt from scratch. These are not "clean" ROMs from the Game Boy Advance, but modified builds with a compilation date of December 19, 2025, 16:01. A new application revision is indicated.
The game features a modern word filter – now you can't name Pokémon with offensive words. Extended telemetry has also been added, which collects data on how users play retro games and whether they return to them.
