According to Comic Book Resources, actor Karl Urban, who plays Johnny Cage in "Mortal Kombat 2", is confident that the sequel to the action movie based on the cult fighting game series could be the best video game adaptation. He shared this during a panel at Emerald City Comic-Con.
According to Urban, working on the film was a "fantastic experience." The actor noted that he has already seen the audience's reaction at early screenings and was pleased with the audience's response. In particular, he mentioned the audience's enthusiastic reaction during the screening at New York Comic Con.
"We showed a small clip at New York Comic-Con, and I've never experienced anything like it in terms of audience reaction. I think they'll be happy. In my opinion, it's probably the best video game adaptation that has ever hit the screens. Honestly, there have been some that haven't quite succeeded, but this one is just a bomb—and a bomb in the best sense of the word. So I'm looking forward to you all seeing it."
The plot of the sequel revolves around the decisive battle of the champions of Earthrealm, who are joined by Johnny Cage. They must stop Shao Kahn and put an end to his rule, which threatens the very existence of Earthrealm.
Josh Lawson (Kano), Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion) have returned to their roles in the sequel. New additions include: Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Tati Gabrielle (Jade), and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi). Simon McQuoid returned as director, and Jeremy Slater wrote the script.
The world premiere of "Mortal Kombat 2" will take place on May 6, 2026.
