The alleged script for the new Resident Evil movie has surfaced online. According to retellings, the adaptation may turn out to be a comedic horror.
According to Kotaku, the full text of Zak Kreger's Resident Evil movie script briefly appeared online, after which it began to be actively removed from various platforms. Discussions and retellings of the content, however, continue to spread online.
If the retellings of those who managed to read the text are to be believed, the film takes place in Raccoon City during the zombie apocalypse. The main character is Brian (Austin Abrams), a courier transporting donor organs. The plot follows him as he tries to reach his pregnant wife while the city descends into chaos. The hero himself is infected with the T-virus and is literally fighting against time.
However, it is not the plot description that is causing controversy online, but its tone. It is reported that the film is accompanied by many comedic and absurd situations and resembles a farce.
Brian gets into various funny situations with zombie dogs, zombie babies, and an obese zombie that spits acid.
Some fans believe that this approach is too far from the atmosphere of Capcom games and poorly connected to their events, although the plot description confirms Kreger's previous words that the film's events take place around the same time as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Some have the impression that it was originally an original script that was later "stuffed" into the Resident Evil universe.
A similar situation has already happened with Kreger's films "Barbarian" and "Weapons." However, it is not yet known how much the leaked text corresponds to the final version of the film. Early versions of scripts often differ significantly from what ultimately makes it to the screen.
The premiere of the new Resident Evil movie is scheduled for September 18.
