A new report by the analytical company Newzoo showed that the audiences of Roblox and Minecraft are significantly different from players of traditional AAA projects and rarely intersect with them.

This was stated by Ben Porter, Director of Consulting at the company, in an interview at GDC. According to him, over the past decade, there has been a noticeable shift in the industry: the pursuit of graphics has ceased to be the main factor for success.

The study showed that Roblox and Minecraft players most often intersect with the audience of large service games. Among them:

  • Fortnite — 55% intersection with Roblox players and 46% with Minecraft
  • Grand Theft Auto V — 28% and 25% respectively
  • Call of Duty — 26% and 22%

However, the situation is different with traditional single-player AAA games. According to Porter, a Roblox player is approximately 0.4 times less likely to launch Monster Hunter Wilds compared to the average gamer on PlayStation or Xbox.

Among the projects that the Minecraft audience launches much less often:

  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  • Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
  • Borderlands 4
  • Ghost of Yōtei
  • NBA 2K26
  • EA Sports Madden NFL 26

Roblox players have a similar list — among the least popular with them are also:

  • Monster Hunter Wilds
  • Borderlands 4
  • Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
  • Ghost of Yōtei
  • Alan Wake 2

Analysts believe that this is due to demographics: a significant part of the Roblox and Minecraft audience are young players with a lot of free time, but a limited budget, so expensive AAA projects are bought less often.
