Many have unsuccessfully tried to replicate the success of DbD.

The online horror game Dead by Daylight has been on the market for 10 years. The project is still popular and developers continue to deliver new content.

Recently, during the GDC conference, a GamesRadar+ journalist spoke with Mathieu Côté, Head of Partnerships, and discussed unsuccessful Dead by Daylight competitor games.

Côté joked that these projects were "just not good enough," and creative director Dave Richard added, "we [with Dead by Daylight] were the first."

After the release of Dead by Daylight, other asymmetrical multiplayer horror games began to appear on the market, such as Friday the 13th: The Game or Evil Dead: The Game from Saber. However, these projects were subsequently closed.

Côté noted that in DbD, players have the option to choose a role—to become a member of the team of survivors or to try on the role of the killer:

That's not the reason [similar games] failed, but it's an important factor.

In addition, he drew attention to the fact that other similar projects are usually "tied to a specific franchise:"

And that's great because it allows you to delve deeper into the universe that people know and love. But it's also extremely limiting.

In Dead by Daylight, the situation is different: the game features content from various franchises, and also includes original stories. This approach makes the game a kind of monster, but also a "self-sustaining organism,"
