Starry Studio, the company behind the post-apocalyptic MMO Once Human, has found itself at the center of a scandal after publishing a promotional video entirely created using generative AI. Social media users have sharply criticized the video, noting not only the fact that it was created using AI, but also its weak connection to the game itself.
The minute-long video shows a desert camp of people being attacked by a mechanical monster known as the "Devourer." However, there are no desert locations in Once Human, and the video itself, as commentators note, looks cheap and simply awful.
The situation is exacerbated by the fact that this is not the first such incident.
- On March 20, a video with an underwater scene and exploration of a destroyed subway, created by AI, was published.
- On March 21, another video in the style of a first-person shooter with an abandoned subway station appeared — also generated by AI.
