The joint project of Sony and Honda to create a car with PlayStation Remote Play support — Afeela — is officially closed.
At the end of last year, the companies stated that the development was going according to plan, and deliveries of the model in California would begin as early as 2026. However, the strategy has now been revised, and the project will not reach the market in its originally conceived form.
Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) announced that it is ceasing the development and launch of the AFEELA 1 model — the second car in the brand's lineup. The decision was made after discussions between Sony and Honda and followed shortly after Honda revised its electrification strategy.
As noted in the statement, due to the changes, SHM will no longer be able to use some of the technologies and assets that were originally planned to be obtained from Honda. As a result, the project lost a "viable path" to market in its previous form.
At the same time, Sony Honda Mobility itself is not closing down. The companies continue to discuss further business plans and possible directions for development.
