It was previously reported that the PS5 Pro will cost from 900 euros from April this year.
On March 27, Sony officially confirmed an increase in prices for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal. However, according to analysts, this may be just the beginning of a larger trend for the entire industry.
Ampere Analysis analyst Piers Harding-Rolls stated that the increase in hardware prices in the gaming industry is likely to continue. He does not rule out that Microsoft and Nintendo will also follow Sony's example. In this case, it could be the first price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 and the third for the Xbox Series X|S.
According to the analyst, the key reason is the continued increase in prices for memory and data storage systems, which are critical components of modern consoles. Pressure on supply chains is increasing amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence infrastructure, which has already led to shortages and higher component costs.
Harding-Rolls noted that Sony likely had temporary price agreements with component suppliers that have expired. In the absence of signs of price reductions, the company decided to protect its already limited hardware margin.
