The new Mario movie is ready for one of the biggest launches of the year.

"Super Mario: Galactic Cinema" is being released with the expectation of one of the biggest launches of the year. According to preliminary estimates, the film could gross around $350 million worldwide in the first few days. Of these, approximately $175 million will come from North America in the first five days, and the same amount from international markets.

These figures would allow the film to become the biggest launch of the year and surpass its closest competitors by a significant margin. For comparison, "Project Hail Mary" with Ryan Gosling launched with $141 million, and the Chinese "Pegasus 3" with $152 million, with the majority of the revenue coming from the domestic market.

Nevertheless, analysts believe that the sequel is unlikely to surpass the launch of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" in 2023, which grossed $387.8 million at launch. Despite the fact that advance ticket sales in the US are ahead of the first film's figures, forecasts are based on the global market. However, even a more modest result will cement the franchise's status as one of the main animated hits of the decade.

Commercial expectations, however, contrast with the reaction of critics. As with the first part, press reviews remain cool — around 45% on Rotten Tomatoes and 37 points on Metacritic based on initial reviews. The main complaints concern the script and the overloaded plot.

The experience of 2023 shows that this is not critical for "Mario". Then the film also received mixed reviews, but eventually grossed more than $1.36 billion worldwide and reached 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Russian cinemas, "Super Mario: Galactic Cinema" will begin showing on April 11.
