Nintendo veteran and art director of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Takaya Imamura, has expressed concern about the film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. In his opinion, the decision to give Link full speech could affect the perception of the entire franchise.
«The moment Link speaks, I can't help but worry that the "Zelda magic" that everyone holds in their heart will simply disappear».
In the games of the series, Link usually does not speak, with rare exceptions. This is a common technique that allows players to project themselves onto the character. In cinema, however, a different logic applies: characters must speak and behave like real people, not like game avatars. Nevertheless, Imamura hopes that Link will remain at least taciturn in the film adaptation.
Filming of The Legend of Zelda is currently taking place in New Zealand. The main roles will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Link) and Bo Bragason (Zelda). The premiere is scheduled for May 7, 2027.
