It was previously announced that director Jake Schreier had brought on board Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, the writers he had already worked with on "Beef" and "Thunderbolts*", to work on the "X-Men" reboot.
In a conversation with Variety, Lee Sung Jin admitted that the decision to join the project came to him without hesitation. According to him, it's one of those offers you can't refuse: "No matter how busy you are, you have to say 'yes'."
The screenwriter's connection to the franchise goes back to his childhood — he watched the animated series and read comics with his father. Now he sees his participation in the reboot as a personal story, as he works with characters "dear to him."
Speaking about his favorites, Lee named Gambit as his favorite mutant and added that he also really likes Jubilee. However, it is too early to take this as a hint: the project is in its early stages, key elements have not yet been determined, so it is premature to talk about the cast of characters.
Nevertheless, rumors are already actively circulating online about Channing Tatum's return to the role of Gambit, and Lana Condor, who played Jubilee in "X-Men: Apocalypse", recently admitted that she "would really like" to return to the role.
