The rise in prices for computer hardware, caused by current trade and economic tensions, continues to affect the gaming industry. In particular, the cost of PlayStation 5 has increased again worldwide, which has heightened users' concerns about the price of the next generation of consoles.
According to a detailed analysis of production data from Moore's Law is Dead, the price of the device will approach the $1000 mark only if duties and a tense economic situation persist until the end of 2027.
The cost of components for the basic version of PlayStation 6 will be about $743–749 — only $100 more expensive than the current PlayStation 5 Slim model. The main factor in the price increase was RAM, which has risen significantly in price compared to other components.
Despite this, the expert is confident that rumors of a $1000 price tag are greatly exaggerated. According to him, the console will not reach this mark under normal market conditions.
However, in the event of an unfavorable development — the preservation of tariffs, the lack of a decrease in DRAM prices, and possible supply problems (for example, if the Strait of Hormuz closes in 2027) — the final price may increase by about 30% and reach $949. In this case, the console will become significantly less accessible to the mass buyer.
If the situation stabilizes, a more moderate price range is expected — from $600 to $800. This is still a high cost, but much more acceptable compared to the worst-case scenario.
