According to new information, the device will become a hybrid that combines the convenience of a console and the openness of a PC. But the latest rumor says that in terms of \"hardware\", Project Helix will turn out to be closer to a computer than to a traditional Xbox.
Insider KeplerL2 stated that Microsoft has abandoned the use of a custom GPU. According to him:
Microsoft did not apply any proprietary modifications on the graphics chip side.
This is an important change, since it was proprietary hardware solutions that long distinguished consoles from PCs.
At the same time, the insider clarified that abandoning a custom GPU does not mean simplified graphics. Xbox Project Helix will supposedly retain support for technologies from the AMD FSR Diamond family, including upscaling, noise reduction, and frame generation for the RDNA 5 architecture. As a result, image quality may remain high even with more \"PC-oriented\" internals.
It was previously reported that Project Helix will effectively be a PC in a console chassis or a console with a computer architecture. This approach will simplify game adaptation and may reduce the need for classic ports.
However, for some players this will mean the end of an era in which a unique architecture remained one of Xbox's main features.
