Noah Hawley believes that fans skip cutscenes anyway and do not follow the plot.

Streaming service Hulu is preparing a new Far Cry adaptation. The project is being created in collaboration with FX, and the executive producers are Noah Hawley (known for the series "Fargo") and Rob McElhenney, one of the creators of "It\'s Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

In a new interview, Hawley spoke about his approach to the adaptation. According to him, what attracted him was that each game in the Far Cry series is a separate story, not directly connected to the previous installments. He used a similar principle when working on "Fargo," so he is considering making each season of the series in a new setting.

At the same time, the showrunner emphasizes that he is not going to adapt any of the games in full. Instead, he intends to analyze the entire franchise and create his own vision of what the Far Cry plot should be. In his view, this approach will preserve the spirit of the series without being limited by the framework of specific games.

Hawley also explained why direct video game adaptations often run into difficulties. He noted that the structure of games — with an emphasis on gameplay and cutscenes that interrupt it — is poorly suited to dramatic storytelling. A player can skip story inserts, causing the human drama to lose its significance, which, as the producer emphasized, is "fatal for a series".

Video games have gameplay and cutscenes that can be skipped. Therefore, when adapting such games, you need to understand that the ability to skip makes human drama less important to the plot. This is fatal for a series.
