Xbox to get its own Saros: Release date announced for Luna Abyss shooter, inspired by Junji Ito's works
A more accessible alternative to the PlayStation 5 exclusive has appeared on the horizon.
Kwalee has announced the release date for Luna Abyss, a stylish first-person shooter with bullet-hell elements. The game will be released on May 21, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, including Xbox Cloud Gaming, and will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
In Luna Abyss, players take control of a prisoner named Fox, who is sent to explore a giant abandoned structure beneath the Moon's surface. The mission is overseen by AI supervisor Aethel, and the hero gradually uncovers the fate of the colony and the city of Greymont. The story draws on cosmic horror motifs, inspired by the works of Junji Ito and Lovecraftian horror.
Gameplay is built around dynamic gunfights where enemies attack with projectiles along complex trajectories. Instead of traditional aiming, the game uses a target-locking system and weapons without ammo but with overheating. This allows the player to focus on positioning, dodging, and timely weapon juggling.
Recently, Luna Abyss has been actively compared to Housemarque's roguelike shooter Saros – its budget alternative to the PlayStation 5 exclusive, which will be available not only to owners of Sony's console.
