The decision is believed to have been made amidst the company's financial difficulties, as it attempts to more strictly control the budgets of its projects.

Assassin's Creed Hexe has undergone significant development changes, with approximately 50 employees removed from the project amidst a franchise-wide restructuring.

The released developers have been transferred to an internal reserve of specialists, temporarily unassigned to specific games. However, these employees are required to find a new project within three months, or they may face dismissal.

The reshuffle is linked to the series' new management team, led by Jean Guesdon. One of his decisions was to remove the previously planned "cat companion" mechanic from the game. Instead, the developers are focusing on a more grounded approach to witchcraft: the main character will use knowledge of chemistry and practical skills — for example, creating smoke bombs that appear as magical disappearances to onlookers.
