In April, news began to spread online about Sony's new DRM system, which performs a monthly check of a gamer's library. The console must connect to Sony's servers at least once every 30 days, otherwise access to PS Store purchases will be blocked.

Many users were predictably outraged by the new system and rushed to PlayStation customer support for clarification, whose agents confirmed the need to regularly confirm ownership of their own games.

It is claimed that the new DRM rules came into effect in March 2026. The license is renewed every 30 days. It will not be possible to bypass the restrictions, even if the console is set as primary.

As commentators on X say, Sony's customer support is often out of touch with reality and does not always give correct answers. People recommend waiting for an official statement from Sony itself.
