In Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, enemies will adapt to the player's combat behavior
Constantly using the same attacks won't work.
The developers of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced have revealed new details about the combat system, which will be one of the key re-engineered components of the game. In a fresh article on the official blog of the series, project creative director Paul Fu elaborated on the innovations, including adaptive opponents, a revamped combat cycle, and an expanded set of attacks.
The combat system is based on the mechanic of bringing enemies to a state where they can be spectacularly finished off. The game will feature several types of finishers:
- Hidden Blade finisher after breaking defense
- Series of finishers after a perfect parry (up to four targets in a row)
- Wall finisher after a kick
- Finisher on a downed opponent
The Hidden Blade will not be a separate weapon, but as the game progresses, it will unlock new animations and finisher variations, including chain finishers.
The developers place great emphasis on using the environment: enemies can be thrown off ledges, pinned against walls, subjected to chain attacks in narrow corridors, or explosive powder barrels can be used.
Black Flag Resynced will feature a new dodge attack: with precise timing, it turns into a “perfect dodge” and deals increased damage. Heavy attacks, which depend on the chosen weapon, have also been added.
One of the main innovations will be smarter enemies who react to repetitive player actions. If parrying is overused, opponents will start using unblockable attacks, and frequent kicks will be easily dodged. Players will have to combine techniques, alternating attacks, gadgets, and weapons.
