"The Boys" showrunner Eric Kripke commented on one of the main complaints from viewers about the fifth season. In recent weeks, there have been increasing complaints on social media that the series has become too focused on "filler" and is moving too slowly towards the finale.

In an interview with TV Guide, Kripke stated that viewers underestimate episodes focused on characters. According to him, without such preparation, the emotional climax would lose its weight, as about 15 characters are developing simultaneously in the series, and each needs attention before the finale.

"I get a lot of unhappy feedback online, to say the least. And I think, 'What did you expect? A huge battle scene in every episode?' First, I can't afford that. And second, it would be empty and boring — just moving pieces without any meaning."

Kripke noted that major plot changes occur in almost every episode, they just aren't always accompanied by battle scenes.

"Sometimes it's a huge shift in character development. But apparently, if it doesn't move the plot forward, people say, 'Nothing happened!' And I think, 'What do you mean — nothing happened?' The craziest and biggest changes are happening. It's just not about someone shooting someone and yelling 'bang bang'."

The final episode of "The Boys" will be released on Prime Video on May 20.
