The book "Portal. The Cube, the Cake, and Artificial Intelligence. The Story of a Cult Puzzle Game" has reached Russian-speaking readers, so now you can learn how Valve turned a student project into a masterpiece, and also admire thematic illustrations.
Employees of the Bombora publishing house announced that the book "Portal. The Cube, the Cake, and Artificial Intelligence. The Story of a Cult Puzzle Game" (Portal o la ciencia del videojuego) by Spanish writer Eva Cid Martínez is now available for purchase.
Currently, it can be purchased in stores for 1449–2007 rubles. This book shows how the Valve franchise became a complete and mature work, and how it was created and refined through observation, data analysis, experiments, testing, and surveys.
Readers will be able to understand the principle of "less is more," why a gamer learns better in a relaxed state, how the song Still Alive breaks the fourth wall, and what GLaDOS has to do with it.
Journalist and editor Georgy Yadveedchuk calls this book a portal to the world of ancient Greek myths, psychoanalysis, philosophy, and the search for meaning. According to him, such an edition can introduce readers to the modern approach used in video game research and reveal what is actually hidden behind the game's plot.
