James Franco has joined the cast of the "Rambo" prequel titled "John Rambo" – Variety reported that the actor landed a small villainous role.

For Franco, this is a significant step back into Hollywood. In 2018, he was accused of inappropriate behavior towards women and abusing his position. In 2021, the parties reached a settlement, after which Franco rarely acted, only occasionally appearing in niche films without wide global distribution.

"John Rambo" is positioned as an origin story for the character and will take place long before the events of 1982's "First Blood." Young John Rambo will be played by Noah Centineo, and David Harbour will appear as Major Trautman, the officer who later becomes the hero's mentor. Jalmari Helander, who directed "Sisu," is at the helm. Sylvester Stallone is listed as a producer on the project alongside brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.

The premiere date for "John Rambo" has not yet been announced, but the release is expected in 2027.
