The film adaptation of David Szymanski's indie horror game Iron Lung will soon be available for home viewing.

Deadline reports that the horror film "Iron Lung" will be released digitally on May 31. The film is based on David Szymanski's indie game Iron Lung and has already become one of the year's notable independent cinematic hits: with a budget of approximately $3 million, the picture grossed over $51 million worldwide.

"Iron Lung" was directed by Mark Fischbach, better known as Markiplier. He wrote the screenplay, directed, edited the film, financed the project, and played the main role.

The film was released in theaters on January 30, 2026, and was distributed without the support of a major studio. Because of this, the film caused quite a stir online when it confidently held its own against Sam Raimi's horror film "Help!", which was released at the same time.

In addition to Fischbach, the film stars Troy Baker, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Elsie Lovelock, Elle Lamont, Mick Lauer, Sean McLoughlin, Isaac McKee, and Alana Pearce. The music was composed by Andrew Hulshult, known to gamers for DUSK, Prodeus, Amid Evil, Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods, as well as the remasters of Heretic and Hexen.

The plot, as in the original game, unfolds in a grim post-apocalyptic reality. After a catastrophe known as the Silent Ascension, most of the stars, planets, and people disappeared. A few survivors send the prisoner Simon to a distant moon, where he must explore an ocean of blood inside a sealed submarine capsule.
