Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Explains Why He Doesn't Comment on Fan Theories

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi refused to comment on fan theories to avoid turning plot discussions into a search for the "correct answer." He also noted that active debates surrounding the interpretation of events are a sign that the game's design is working as intended.

The plot of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, part of the remake trilogy, includes alternative timelines and significant deviations from the original. However, Hamaguchi previously emphasized that the trilogy would not have “major changes” to the main story.

As soon as we start doing that, the story stops being an experience to be perceived and becomes a search for the “correct answer.”

According to him, multiple interpretations were the basis of the design. Hamaguchi also added:

The fact that it has generated so much discussion among fans is a clear sign to me that this design is working exactly as we intended.

He noted that not all audience reactions are positive, but such an effect was probably expected.

The release date for the third part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake has not yet been announced, nor has its final title. Preparations for the announcement are underway, but no deadlines have been disclosed.
