Revolution Software's cult adventure game series is preparing for the big screen.

According to Variety, the adventure quest series Broken Sword will receive a film adaptation. The film is being developed by Revolution Software, the production company Story Kitchen, and screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos, known for the 2017 remake of "Beauty and the Beast," 2014's "Hercules," and the horror film "The Unholy."

It is currently unknown whether the film will be an adaptation of one of the existing games or tell an independent story within the Broken Sword universe.

The main characters are likely to be American George Stobbart and French journalist Nicole Collard once again, investigating conspiracies related to Templars, ancient cults, and mystical artifacts.

Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitry M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg stated that "the team's task is to bring the world of Broken Sword, which has been created for three decades, to the screen, along with the people who were at its origins."

Broken Sword creator Charles Cecil noted that Story Kitchen "approached the project with a deep passion for the intellectual property":

"This is rare. In creative discussions, the focus was on how to convey the essence of Broken Sword, rather than how it could be visually reinterpreted. I am very excited to work with Story Kitchen and Evan."

The estimated premiere date and other details have not yet been disclosed.
