It seems the new version of "Masters of the Universe" has exceeded the expectations of early viewers.

The premiere of Travis Knight's "Masters of the Universe" took place in Los Angeles, and the initial impressions were at least positive. A full review embargo is still in effect, but journalists and critics have already been allowed to share short reviews on social media.

Judging by the reactions, the creators did not shy away from the strange nature of the original animated series and opted for a vibrant cosmic fantasy with comedy, bombastic battles, and a kitschy 80s aesthetic, which "reminds adults of what made Saturday morning cartoons legendary." Many also compare the film to the first "Thor" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" from Marvel.

Praise for Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam was not spared. According to early viewers, the actor managed to embody a charismatic He-Man who combines masculinity with softness and self-irony.

However, some journalists consider Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, to be the main highlight of the film. Critic Griffin Schiller called the character "truly magnificent" and the "MVP of the film," describing him as a pathetic and charismatic villain – like "Dr. Evil meets Man Ray."

Early reactions have so far avoided serious complaints. Unlike "The Mandalorian and Grogu," which received criticism in both early reactions and full reviews, "Masters of the Universe" is mostly criticized for its overly strong desire to please the audience and some unsuccessful jokes.

Against the backdrop of cautious box office predictions, such early reviews look like a good sign for Amazon MGM, although the full picture will only be revealed by final reviews and the opening weekend.

The premiere of "Masters of the Universe" will take place on June 5.
