Hideo Kojima watched "Return to Silent Hill" - and he has no words
The creator of Metal Gear and Death Stranding left an extremely laconic comment after watching the new Silent Hill 2 adaptation.
Hideo Kojima watched the film "Return to Silent Hill" — a new adaptation of Silent Hill 2 by director Christophe Gans — and wrote only one phrase: "Watched 'Return to Silent Hill' on Amazon Prime."
At first glance, nothing special. But for Kojima, who usually talks in detail and enthusiastically about films he likes, such brevity is perceived as a separate review. For example, his recent review of the adaptation of Stephen King's "The Long Walk" took him more than two hundred words.
In the comments under the post, people joke that "only true connoisseurs understand: these words mean that the film was a complete mess," and call such a reaction "the worst praise from Kojima." Others write that "everything is clear when he just says 'watched'," and add that Kojima seems to have hated the film along with most viewers. He previously gave a similar dry reaction in the spirit of "watched" to, for example, "Captain Marvel."
However, Kojima was far from the only one unimpressed by the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, "Return to Silent Hill" has only 18% positive reviews. Critics criticize the film for its convoluted plot, weak visual effects, and overly theatrical acting. The attempt to combine the Silent Hill 2 adaptation with Gans' original 2006 film was particularly criticized.
