Toad's Voice Actor Reveals Release Date for Third Super Mario Movie
Another actor from "Super Mario: Galactic Cinema" has decided to break the silence about the sequel.
Actor Keegan-Michael Key, who voices Toad in the Super Mario film franchise, let slip in an interview with ScreenRant that the next installment is scheduled for release in 2029.
"Michael and Aaron, our directors, are really passionate about it. I think they're as passionate about these projects as the audience is. So we have to get it right. So I apologize. But it's worth the wait. It's worth the wait... 2029 is better than 'someday,' right?"
Previously, Jack Black, who voices Bowser, also hinted at a 2029 release. He said at the time: "Don't be surprised if the next installment comes out in 2029."
However, neither Nintendo nor Universal Pictures have officially confirmed plans for a sequel yet. Given the success of "Super Mario: Galactic Cinema," a sequel seems logical: the film grossed almost $968 million at the box office and became the second highest-grossing video game adaptation in history after "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" with $1.36 billion.
The 2029 target also doesn't seem accidental. The first film was released in 2023, and three years passed between it and the sequel, despite a production hiatus due to the WGA strike.
