Is Amazon Afraid of Jared Leto's Curse? The Actor is Not Participating in the "Masters of the Universe" Promotional Campaign

A strange situation is developing around Amazon's "Masters of the Universe." Jared Leto, who plays Skeletor and is considered the most recognizable actor in the project, is practically absent from the film's advertising campaign. This was noted by World of Reel journalist Jordan Ruimy.

According to his data, Leto did not appear at the Amazon/MGM presentation at CinemaCon, missed the film's premiere, and is not participating in a series of interviews dedicated to the picture. Moreover, the actor has not yet mentioned "Masters of the Universe" on social media, where he has over 11 million followers.

There are no official comments from Amazon or Leto himself. However, a Puck source claims that the actor was allegedly not thrilled with the film. Ruimy believes that this may not be the only reason. According to the journalist, the studio is quite consciously trying not to make Leto the central face of the marketing.

In recent years, the actor's name has increasingly been associated with box office failures. "Suicide Squad," "House of Gucci," and "Tron: Ares" failed to meet expectations at the box office, and "Morbius" even became a meme after poor box office returns.

Given the budget of "Masters of the Universe," estimated at approximately $175-200 million, Amazon is unlikely to want to take unnecessary risks – especially when memes regularly appear under the film's promotional materials, depicting Jared Leto as a grim reaper condemning films to failure.

The premiere of "Masters of the Universe" in international release will take place on June 5, 2026.
