"Invincible" and "JoJo" burst into Astra Awards nominations, while Sam Witwer single-handedly stands up for "Darth Maul"

The Hollywood Creative Alliance announced the full list of nominees for the Astra TV Awards 2026. In the "Best Animated Series" category, "Invincible," "Hazbin Hotel," as well as broadcast veterans "South Park" and "The Simpsons" will compete for the main statuette.

However, the new Disney+ series "Star Wars: Maul – Lord of Shadows" was left without a nomination in the main section. The critics' decision seems strange against the backdrop of audience and press reactions: the show received 98% positive reviews from critics and 92% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

As a result, the only representative of the project in the key categories was Sam Witwer, who once again voiced Darth Maul. The actor received a nomination for Best Lead Voice Performance, but his competition turned out to be extremely diverse: he is up against Steven Yeun ("Invincible"), Patrick Seitz ("Cock Fight"), Anjali Kunapaneni ("Witch Hat Atelier"), as well as Seth MacFarlane and Abby Jacobson.

Speaking of anime: this year's "Best Anime" category included "Dandelion," "Mao," "Cock Fight," "Sakamoto Days," "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run," and "Witch Hat Atelier." The new part of "JoJo" stands out especially, having managed to make it to the awards with only one episode released.

The winners of the Astra TV Awards 2026 will be announced on August 15 at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
