The AM5 processor lineup has unexpectedly been expanded with an affordable chip featuring 3D V-Cache, already being touted as the new "people's favorite."

AMD has announced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D for the AM5 platform. The new chip is designed with the widest possible gaming audience in mind. It offers a full configuration with 3D V-Cache technology in an 8-core design with an affordable starting price of $329.

The new product is built on the Zen 4 architecture and features 8 cores and 16 threads. At first glance, the processor strongly resembles the gaming hit Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but to reduce costs, AMD had to make compromises on frequencies.

The base clock speed of the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is 4.0 GHz, and in Boost mode, the chip accelerates to 4.5 GHz, which is 200 MHz and 500 MHz lower than the older model's figures, respectively. However, the cache subsystem was not affected: the die carries the same 96 MB of L3 cache, and the declared thermal design power (TDP) is about 120 W.

Due to the reduced boost, the pure gaming performance of the Ryzen 7 7700X3D will be approximately 5% lower than that of the 7800X3D. In real-world scenarios, most users are unlikely to notice this difference.

Although there is already a slightly cheaper six-core Ryzen 5 7600X3D for $299 on the market, modern game engines are increasingly targeting 8 cores, and in these conditions, the new product could become an extremely attractive offer in terms of price-to-performance ratio.

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D will hit store shelves in July 2026.
